Hand Arendall’s Governmental and Regulatory Services Practice Team has a long and respected history of representing state and local governmental entities in Alabama in litigation which has allowed its members to gain an invaluable working knowledge and understanding of the issues that face state and local governmental entities.

As general counsel to a number of municipal and county governments, the attorneys on the Governmental and Regulatory Services Team work with attorneys in the firm’s State and Local Government Practice Group on a wide range of questions involving municipal and governmental services. This representation has allowed the attorneys on the Governmental and Regulatory Services Practice Team to litigate virtually all areas of governmental law including zoning and land use, environmental liability, civil rights claims, employment discrimination, tort claims, workers compensation claims, contract disputes, competitive bidding laws, procurement disputes, licensing disputes, regulation of public utilities, taxation, interpretation of ordinances and by-laws, state and federal legislative issues, and compliance with open meeting laws.

Members of Hand Arendall’s Governmental and Regulatory Services Practice Team have also represented State of Alabama departments and officials in litigation on matters dealing with Alabama’s public school system, prison and corrections department, and matters arising in the employment and civil rights or constitutional law context. The Practice Team members have also represented municipal and governmental interests before various administrative and regulatory bodies at both the state and federal levels. The Practice Team also has expertise and experience in the management and litigation of a variety of public utilities litigation, including cable television, electricity and public sewer and water disputes.
